Labor leaders unite behind Summerlin Studios project to create tens of thousands of new jobs and diversify Nevada’s economy
Oct. 7, 2025 – Southern Nevada’s leading trade unions, including the Building Trades, Laborers and Carpenters, today announced the formation of the NEVADA JOBS NOW! Coalition—a unified effort to support the Summerlin Studios project and bring a new industry and new jobs to the state.
“This special session gives Nevada a second chance to create over 19,000 construction jobs today and more than 17,000 permanent jobs tomorrow,” said Tommy White, Business Manager and Secretary-Treasurer, Laborers International Union of North America Local 872. “Our unions are united because Summerlin Studios isn’t only a construction project—it’s an economic engine that will deliver over $3 billion in annual impact and sustain thousands of working families for decades.”
“Nevadans need good-paying, career-building jobs—and they need them now,” said Vince Saavedra, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Southern Nevada Building Trades Unions. “Summerlin Studios can deliver both. It’s time to put shovels in the ground and build a new future for our state.”
“The Summerlin Studios project will bring tens of thousands of jobs to the State during the construction phase, while creating billions of dollars in economic impact once built,” said Brandon Morris, Director of Government Affairs in Nevada for the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters. “We have an opportunity to bring a new industry to Nevada and create a pathway to careers that will continue to benefit generations to come.”
ONGOING STUDIO AND DEVELOPER SUPPORT
“Howard Hughes, in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Warner Bros., stands ready to invest more than $1.8 billion to bring Summerlin Studios and a dynamic mixed-use district to life,” said David O’Reilly, CEO of Howard Hughes Corporation. “Coupled with Warner’s and Sony’s commitment to billions in long-term film and television production, this project will catalyze the diversification of Nevada’s economy, create tens of thousands of jobs, and establish the state as a major player in the entertainment industry. But this is about more than just buildings—it’s about creating careers, sparking innovation, and building a more resilient economy for generations to come. We’re honored to stand alongside Nevada’s union leadership to help make this vision a reality.”
The Nevada Studio Infrastructure Jobs and Workforce Training Act
“The sheer volume of unions supporting The Nevada Studio Infrastructure Jobs and Workforce Training Act, underscores the need for the jobs this project will immediately create and sustain into the future,” said Sandra Jauregui, Nevada Assembly Majority Leader and bill sponsor. “Since the end of Session, my colleagues and I have heard from hundreds of constituents who’ve expressed their continued excitement for the economic opportunities this project will create and that our community desperately needs. I hope we have the opportunity to bring this bill back in the upcoming Special Session of the Nevada Legislature and ultimately deliver a brand-new industry and tens of thousands of jobs to our state.”
